Literature Review on Trends of Comprehension Instruction for Elementary School Students

چکیده

Abstract: The objective of this article is to construct evidence-based arguments on what comprehension and are various instructional approaches improve post the National Reading Panel’s (NRP) report (2000). NRP (2000) reported seven text instructions that have scientific evidences in improving reading comprehension. Those are: (1) monitoring, (2) cooperative learning, (3) graphic semantic organizers, (4) question answering, (5) generation, (6) summarization, (7) multiple strategies. It has been more 20 years since reviewed empirical those instructions. What we learnt then? Having 29 studies instruction published past twenty years, found top three used elementary classroom. They differentiated/individualized instruction, vocabulary-based transactional approach. These findings informed us further research needed. Also, categorization needs modification.
